D. Zon der Vryheid, neêrgezonken,
Verkwikt ons hart niet als wel eer,
Zy doet ons borst niet meer ontvonken,
Helaas! de Vryheid legt ter neêr.
Haar Helden zyn haar thans onttoogen;
Weg nu Vryheid's Speer en Hoed,
Weg met al uw groot vermogen,
De Dwing'land lacht om 's Volks Invloed.
Die voor Vryheid durfde spreeken,
En pal staan voor het Vaderland,
Ziet men door geheime streeken,
Op het godloost, aangerand;
Alva's Bloed-Raad zit gespannen,
Met den Dwingland in den Raad,
Die, na zaamgesm-edde plannen,
De Bloem des Volks ter neder slaat
Heet dit nu, u Recht verschaffen?
Zeg? gy Monsters van de Aard'!
Weet, dat Godt u eens zal straffen,
Schoon Hy nog zyn Toorn spaard.
Ga maar voort, ô Burger-beulen,
Verdelg elk ieder Patriot,
Wilt hem vry ter Siagtbank seulen,
Recht verschaft gewis ons God
Ja U! zal hy Recht verschaffen,
Lyders der Oprechtste Zaak!
Eens zal hy dat Vloekrot straffen,
Voldaan zien uw gerechte Wraak;
Al moet ge in Ballingschap nu zwerven,
In ketens zuchten - edel kroost!
God doet d'Onschuld nooit verderven,
Dan voor een tyd, - weest maar getroost.

The sun of freedom sunk down,
Does not revive our heart like before,
She no longer ignites out chest,
Unfortunately! Freedom is lying down,
Her heroes have been taken from her
Gone now is Freedom’s Spear and Hat,
Away with all your great abilities,
The Represser laughs about the people’s influence.
Who dared to speak in favour of Freedom,
And stood right in front of the Fatherland,
People see, by means of secret plots,
[them] most godlessly assaulted;
Alva’s Blood-Council sits tensely,
With the Represser in the Council,
Which, after plans they made together,
Beat down the Flower of the People
Is this called providing Justice?
Say? You Monsters of the Earth!
Know, that God will punish you at some point,
Though He still saves his wrath.
Go forth, oh citizen-killers,
Exterminate every and each Patriot,
Drag him free to the slaughterhouse,
Justice is surely provided to us by God
Yes you! He will provide Justice to,
Sufferers of the Justified Cause!
Once he will punish those Cursed people,
Will see satisfied your justified Vengeance;
Even if you must now dole in Exile,
Sigh in chains – noble offspring!
God never spoils Innocence,
Then for some time – be comforted.
