O Jesus, in uw’ heyl’ge naem,
Wy Wormkens ons knye-oxels vouwen,
Want door de dood hebt ghy behouwen,
De macht van Aerd’ en Hemel saem.
Ghy hebt in Babels duyst’re nachten,
Uw’ woord in mijne mond geleyd:
Ghy hiellipt my d’aenlocklijckheyd
Des levens kloeckelijck verachten:
Sie op my neder in de nood.
Demp in my (Heer!) des vleysches broosheyd,
Neerslaghtigheyd en modeloosheyd,
In ‘t aengaen van de wrange dood.
Laet, bid ick, op mijn neder trecken,
Uw’ heylge Geest, die Hemels Duyff,
De reynigheyd uws bloed-brons, schuyff
Togh over al mijn snoode vlecken.
Op dat ick voor het aengesicht,
Des grooten Vaders mach verschijnen,
Wiens Throon, omheynt van Cherubijnen,
Staet in het ontoeganck’lijck licht.
O Heyland! weest hier in mijn voorspraeck
Op dat ick niet vergeten blijff.
Weer bid ick, mijne swackheyd stijff,
Op dat ick kloeck doods klove door-raeck.
En reken haer geen schult, die koen
Uyt eenen averechtsen yver,
Doen stroomen een te bloed’gen vyver:
Sy weten (Heer!) niet wat sy doen.
Maer breeck veel liever, met de hamer
Uws Godlijck woords, hun hart in tween:
Op dat sy u bekennen, geen
Gescheps verstroyer, maer versamer:
Geeft zegen aen dit bloeyend Rijck:
En aen het hooft der Majesteyten,
’t Geen sigh besoedelt, met de feyten,
Niet Konincklijck; ‘k swijgh Christelijck.
Wy smeecken ’t u in uwen name
Die ons alleen gegeven is,
In welck het saligh leven is,
Verhoord ons Jesu: Amen, amen.

TRANSLATION:

Oh Jesus, in your holy name,
Us worms fold our knees’ pits,
Become by death you have maintained,
The power of Earth and Heaven together.
You have in Babel’s dark nights,
Put your word in my mouth:
You helped me to despise the temptations of life in a bold way:
Look down on me in need.
Dampen in me (Lord!) the flesh’ brittleness,
Dejection and despondency,
In engaging the wry death.
Let, I pray, fall over me,
Your holy Spirit, which Heaven’s Pidgeon,
The purity of your bronzed blood, shoves
Over all my evil stains.
So that I may before the face,
Of the great Father may appear,
Whose throne, surrounded by Cherubs,
Stands in the inaccessible light.
Oh Saviour! Be here in my advocacy
So that I will not remain forgotten.
Again I pray, my weakness stiff,
So that I boldly go through death’s chasm.
And do no account her any debt, who valiantly
Out of a contradictory zeal,
Makes stream a bloody pond:
They know (Lord!) not what they do.
But break much rather, with the hammer
Your Godly words, their heart in two:
So that they show you, no
Creator’s destroyer, but assembler:
Give blessing to this flourishing Realm:
And to the head of the Majesties,
That which taints itself with the facts,
Not Royal; I Christianly fall silent,
We beg it in you in your name
Which is given only to us,
In which the blessed life is,
Hear us Jesus: Amen, amen.
